Title:  Vision of Mission for Today’s Disciples
                                                 Text: Acts 1:1-11

Introduction:  Twenty-one centuries ago, the Risen Christ spent 40 days with his disciples painting a picture of how he fulfilled the Law, Prophets and Writings and how faith, after his ascension, should be lived. This Acts passage opens up a vista to see the bigness of God’s kingdom, the purpose behind Christ’s call to mission and the embrace of his empowering presence to fulfill his mission today.

Conclusion:  Last September, Joyce and I had a touring vacation in Southwest of US.  We’ve never been to that part of US before. Amazed at the various vistas of the Grand Canyon and even had a Helicopter ride over the canyon. It is so big, so awesome we were amazed at seeing it from all angles. We were moved to worship. Then we got in our touring bus and went to the next sight.  Bryce Canyon was also impressive - We said a collective “Wow” and went on….  After looking at Acts 1:1-11 we might be tempted to have a similar response….  Yet I do not want us to drive away from this text this afternoon without applying the truths – Not only see the bigness of God’s Kingdom, but hear the call to become involved in what He is doing around the world, and to say – Yes, but we will only go in the power of Christ’s Spirit, renewing and equipping us so that we can bring glory to the Triune God.
You think about that.
